British Bangladeshi Catering industry voice in the UK since 1960
Mr. M.A. Munim
BCA Election 2017 took place on Sunday, the 21st of May 2017. A new national executive committee was declared for the term 2017-2019. I, M. M. Kamal Yakub happen to be the new President; my running mate, the Secretary General is Mr. Oli Khan. Other key position holders are: Mr. Saidur Rahman Bipul-Chief Treasurer, Mr. Mitu Choudhury- Organising Secretary, Mr. Saiful Alom- Membership Secretary and Mr. Forhad Hussain Tipu- Press & Publication Secretary.
At the very outset I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you all to the Installation Ceremony of the newly elected BCA National Executive Committee.
We intend to carry on from where the outgoing President Mr. Pasha Khandakar and the outgoing Secretary General Mr. M. A. Munim left. They served 2 terms with BCA and took it to a level that we can all be proud of. They deserve acclamation.
It will now be our aim to take BCA to a new height. Our beloved curry industry which our predecessors worked so hard for is facing almost insurmountable difficulties and hurdles. They are- acute staff crisis, strict immigration policies, inflation and high running costs, lack of training and lack of interest from our 3rd generation to join the industry. We aim to work on all of these burning issues.
As regards bringing in staff from commonwealth countries, the Government has laid very stringent immigration rules. We have to lobby and create pressure on the government as a united body to relax these rules. Before referendum we were given some hope this would happen, but unfortunately it’s not looking good so far!
Our Prime Minister seems to be trying to make them even harder. Most of our caterers voted to leave because of the pledges given by the Brexit campaigners like Prithi Patel. We can’t be manipulated like this! Rather gather more strength and keep on creating pressure to achieve our legitimate rights. It’s time for the government to recognise this huge industry of ours that contributes over 4.2 billion to the treasury.
We also intend to work on all other issues and try to overcome the hurdles facing our industry with the support of our executive and general members. We will re-establish all the regional committees as soon as possible in order to connect with our general members.
I must mention here that in the new BCA National Executive Committee, we have quite a good number of very enthusiastic young members who are willing to work for BCA by bringing in their innovative ideas and skills. I am confident that they will help to give our so cherished platform a new dimension.
My message to all caterers is that, please join BCA and see what you can do for our industry; there is already a platform for you that has existed for 57 years, so please join hand in hand and make the most of it for yourselves and for your fellow caterers.
May Allah (swt) bless us all.
M. M. KAMAL YAKUB
It will now be our aim to take BCA to a new height.
I have the passion and with everyone’s collective support hope to drive the BCA to the next level,
SAIDUR RAHMAN (BIPUL)
If we continue to carry out the fundamental tasks positive results will follow.
